An investor is urging Atlanta Braves Holdings to pursue a sales process to take advantage of the soaring value of professional sports teams. In a letter to the board of the company released early Monday, Breach Inlet Capital Management wrote that the Braves stock trades at a big discount to the estimated value of the company, which includes the baseball team and an attractive real-estate development around the Braves’ home field. The Braves are the only pure public play on major league baseball teams.
Atlanta Braves Holdings is one of only two publicly traded plays on U.S. professional sports, and the company’s stock looks inexpensive, even after a 25% gain this year. The company owns the Atlanta Braves, a premier Major League Baseball franchise, and a real estate development around the team’s home field. The other public U.S. sports team company is Madison Square Garden Sports owner of the New York Knicks and Rangers.
Higher valuations for rival teams is a boon for shares of the Atlanta MLB squad, the league’s only publicly traded team.
