Turkey may announce new oil news from Gabar soon, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said in Moscow. He said oil and natural gas exploration continues both on land and at sea, including work at Gabar.

Bayraktar said natural gas production from the Sakarya field in the Black Sea began in 2023 and was running at 7.5 billion cubic meters a year. He said output was expected to double and reach four times its level in 2028.

He said Turkey was seeking to diversify its energy sources and suppliers, including through long-term liquefied natural gas agreements with the United States. Bayraktar also said the country was developing alternative supply options in case of pipeline disruptions.

Russia has supplied Turkey with more than 600 billion cubic meters of natural gas, Bayraktar said. He said talks with Gazprom covered gas infrastructure and regional supply security.

Bayraktar said Turkey aims to bring the first reactor at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant online within the next few months. He also said planned nuclear projects in Sinop and Thrace were discussed with Russian officials.
