Fastly Pairs AI Security Launch With Investor Day Pitch

New controls for AI models and agents arrive as Fastly highlights security growth and rising machine-generated traffic to investors.

Fastly introduced three tools for managing AI activity on September 21, one day before its investor meeting. The launch covers AI Runtime Control, AI Firewall and expanded API Security, aimed at model use, AI applications and agents accessing company systems.

AI Runtime Control routes requests to public or self-hosted models through one endpoint, with controls for spending and access. The firewall is designed to detect attacks such as prompt injection. API Security lets companies monitor or block requests that break their API rules, Fastly said.

Fastly said machine-generated requests accounted for more than half of traffic on its network in July and August. From January through May, AI traffic grew 6.5 times faster than human traffic, the company reported. That shift gives Fastly a reason to pitch its network as infrastructure for AI activity as well as website delivery.

The timing put the product launch in front of investors at the company’s September 22 strategy and outlook event. Fastly shares rose 14.9% on September 21 to $27.42, and were up 1.2% in premarket trading the next morning, according to market reports.

The sales pitch follows a stronger second quarter. Fastly reported revenue of $183.3 million, up 23% from a year earlier, while security revenue increased 43% to $41.7 million. Security made up 23% of revenue, compared with 20% a year earlier.

Fastly’s August forecast called for 2026 revenue of $732 million to $746 million. Investors assessing the AI push will need evidence that customers adopt the new tools and that security growth continues; the launch announcement did not disclose expected sales from the products.

The company’s investor presentation framed AI as an opportunity across traffic delivery, software security and API controls. The business test is whether the new capabilities add to Fastly’s existing security sales, rather than simply broadening its product list.
