Light Science Sees Healthcare Revenue Reaching £1m in 12 Months

A repeat £342,000 medical-device order lifts the contract above £500,000 as the electronics maker pursues defence work and adds inspection equipment.

Light Science Technologies expects its healthcare-device business to generate about £1 million in revenue over a 12-month cycle, Chief Executive Simon Deacon said. The company’s latest repeat order took the customer contract’s value above £500,000.

The new order is worth about £342,000, with revenue expected between November 2026 and February 2027, according to the company’s September 22 update. Light Science first won work from the unnamed international healthcare manufacturer in May, with an initial order worth roughly £160,000.

Deacon told Proactive that the initial expectation was about £500,000 of annual revenue from the customer. Orders reached that level faster than expected, prompting him to raise the estimate to around £1 million within a 12-month cycle. This is a management expectation, not a guaranteed contract value.

The company is also preparing its contract electronics manufacturing division, or CEM, to pursue defence work. Deacon cited UK spending of around £300 billion over the next four years and said onshoring was creating opportunities for domestic suppliers. The company has not announced a defence contract.

Light Science is spending about £112,000 on automated optical inspection equipment with built-in AI. The company says the system will help check smaller, more complex electronic components as it seeks business in healthcare, medical and defence markets.

Customer diversification is another goal. Deacon said one pest-control customer previously represented about 60% of CEM revenue, a share he expects to fall to around 25% as new clients grow.

The division’s growth push comes after a weaker first half for the group. Light Science reported revenue of £3.73 million for the six months to May 31, down from £5.06 million a year earlier; CEM contributed £2.42 million.

Investors will watch whether the healthcare customer places further orders and whether Light Science converts its defence pipeline into contracts. Revenue from the latest healthcare order is scheduled to begin in November, while Deacon said the group expects to finish 2026 strongly and build into 2027.
