Meta Adds Shopify Checkout to Muse’s AI Shopping Tools

The partnership lets Muse users buy from Shopify merchants through Shop Pay, extending Meta’s new assistant from product discovery into checkout.

Meta is partnering with Shopify to let its Muse AI assistant complete purchases through Shop Pay, Shopify’s checkout service. The deal connects Muse users with products from Shopify merchants and gives the assistant a way to help finish transactions.

Shopify CEO Tobias Lütke said the integration would support checkout on Shopify stores. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the companies were teaming up to make shopping and checkout easier in Muse. Neither company announced a revenue-sharing arrangement or a firm rollout schedule.

Shop Pay stores shoppers’ payment and delivery details for faster checkout. Meta’s September 8 launch announcement said Muse could already check out using Link, a payment service from Stripe, and described Shop Pay as another payment option to come. The Shopify deal adds a path into the company’s merchant network.

Muse is designed to do tasks for users, not only answer questions. Meta says it can work through a browser and must seek approval before actions such as making a purchase. That makes checkout a practical test of whether people will trust an AI assistant to act on their behalf.

The partnership also puts Shopify’s commerce infrastructure inside a new AI channel. Shopify has been adding ways for merchants to sell through AI services, while keeping product listings and checkout connected to its own systems. The Meta agreement extends that strategy to Muse.

Access to retailers is not guaranteed. Amazon blocked Muse from shopping on its site, Axios reported, highlighting a key limit for AI shopping agents: retailers can choose whether outside assistants may browse and buy from them.

The next signs to watch are when Shop Pay becomes usable in Muse, which merchants and shoppers can access it, and whether Meta or Shopify disclose transaction volumes. For now, the partnership establishes a route to checkout, but offers no evidence yet of how much business it will generate.
