The new truffle line brings Mondelēz’s Biscoff chocolate collaboration to the U.S., with Costco as its exclusive retailer.
Mondelēz International is bringing Toblerone truffles filled with Biscoff spread to the United States, where Costco will sell them exclusively. The 495-gram box is also launching through Costco in nine other markets, including Canada, Australia and the U.K., the company said.
Each diamond-shaped truffle combines Toblerone milk chocolate, Biscoff spread and crunchy honey-almond nougat. The product extends Toblerone beyond its familiar triangular bars and gives U.S. shoppers their first Mondelēz chocolate made with Lotus Bakeries’ Biscoff, according to Food Dive.
The truffles are already appearing in some Costco stores, with more stores to follow as shelves are stocked. Mondelēz also plans a 180-gram sharing box for select countries, but the U.S. is not among the markets listed for that format.
The launch extends a partnership Mondelēz and Lotus Bakeries announced in June 2024. Their earlier co-branded chocolate products paired Biscoff with Cadbury and Milka in Europe and the U.K.; the companies later expanded those products to markets including Australia and Canada.
Mondelēz executive Iain Livingston told Food Dive that the Biscoff chocolate line generates more than $300 million in annual revenue. He said repeat-purchase rates in launched markets range from 30% to 40%, while the company has said it sees room to grow the business further.
The U.S. launch also gives Toblerone a broader retail presence beyond travel locations. About 25% of the brand’s sales come from travel retail, where Mondelēz says it is the leading chocolate brand, Food Dive reported.
Costco shoppers will be the first U.S. test for the product, though Livingston told Food Dive that other U.S. retailers have asked about carrying it. Mondelēz’s release describes the Costco arrangement as its first global retail partnership with the chain.
