Anthropic Pushes Claude Into Wealth Management With Schwab

The new advisor suite connects Claude to custodians, portfolio systems and compliance workflows as AI competition spreads across finance.

For the more than 16,000 independent registered investment advisory firms served by Charles Schwab, Anthropic is offering a way to pull client data, portfolio reports and meeting records into one conversational workspace.

Anthropic on September 14 launched Claude for Financial Advisors, a suite built around connectors and workflow “skills” for the daily work of wealth managers. Schwab Advisor Services is the product’s first RIA custodian integration, giving advisors an authenticated path into Schwab Advisor Center while keeping their existing technology stack in place.

The pitch is less about letting an AI pick stocks than about removing the administrative sprawl surrounding advice. Claude can assemble pre-meeting briefs, summarize holdings and account activity, flag portfolio drift, draft explanations for clients, generate follow-up tasks and help screen communications for compliance issues. Anthropic said critical actions and regulated recommendations still require advisor review and approval, while Schwab highlighted audit logs for administrators.

That distinction matters. Financial advice runs on deterministic calculations, suitability rules and records that firms must be able to reconstruct. Peter Nolan, Anthropic’s head of asset and wealth management, told InvestmentNews that Claude is intended to orchestrate existing systems rather than replace the engines performing portfolio management and investment calculations.

The launch also links Claude with a broad group of financial platforms, including BlackRock, Addepar, Envestnet, iCapital, Orion, Wealthbox, Wealth.com, Vanguard and Zocks. Depending on the connection, advisors can pull in alternative-investment data, estate and tax information, portfolio analytics, CRM histories and meeting intelligence.

For Schwab, the partnership strengthens Advisor Services as competition intensifies among custodians and wealth platforms to become the operating layer for independent firms. For Anthropic, it creates a distribution channel into a fragmented but lucrative professional market, where workflow integration may matter more than chatbot novelty.

The move lands as AI companies race to specialize their models for finance. OpenAI has also introduced industry-focused tools aimed at investment bankers and equity researchers. Wealth management is a different test: client data is sensitive, compliance obligations are persistent and trust is part of the product.

Claude now has access to the plumbing. Advisors will decide whether it earns a place in the office.
