AXA, BytePlus Plan AI Tools Across Insurance Operations

A new Hong Kong partnership spans underwriting, claims and marketing as a GlobalData poll finds risk assessment remains insurers’ top AI target.

AXA Hong Kong and Macau signed a memorandum of understanding with BytePlus to explore AI tools across insurance operations. A GlobalData poll found 34.4% of respondents expect underwriting and risk profiling to benefit most from AI.

Announced on September 10, the agreement covers research into insurance-specific AI models, digital agents and decision-support tools. The companies plan to examine uses in knowledge management, underwriting, claims processing and distribution.

The memorandum also covers customer analytics and marketing. AXA plans to use BytePlus’s predictive analytics and customer-persona modelling to sharpen customer insights, while generative AI could support a content-creation hub.

The agreement sets out areas for collaboration, not a confirmed timetable for launching products or savings. AXA said it would maintain governance and customer protections as it develops the work.

The poll placed customer service second, at 20.4%, followed by claims management at 18.3% and product development at 16.1%. It surveyed readers of GlobalData’s Verdict Media sites between April 15 and July 22, 2026; a respondent count was not provided in the published results.

AXA’s broader strategy points in the same direction. In its September 15 plan for 2027-2029, the group said it intends to embed data and AI across its business, using shared technology platforms and partnerships while letting local teams adapt tools to their markets.

The next test is whether the planned tools improve speed, service or risk assessment without weakening oversight. AXA and BytePlus have not announced performance targets or a deployment schedule for their Hong Kong partnership.
